This course, Anatomy & Physiology for Sterile Processing Technicians, is the second course in the Learning Pathway of Sterile Processing Technician Certificate Program. It provides a focused overview of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to surgical instrumentation and sterile processing procedures.

Unit 1 — Introduction to Human Anatomy

  • Structural organization of the human body

  • Anatomical terms and planes

Unit 2 — Body Systems Relevant to SPD

  • Musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, and gastrointestinal systems

  • Relationship between body systems and surgical instrumentation

Unit 3 — Medical Terminology for SPD

  • Root words, prefixes, and suffixes

  • Common terms used in surgical settings

Unit 4 — Surgical Applications

  • Linking anatomy to common surgical procedures

  • Instrument sets for specific specialties

Clock Hours: 15 theory hours (Total: 15 hours)
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Course 1 — Roles, Responsibilities & Departmental Foundations.
Outcome: Students will be able to identify anatomical structures and terminology relevant to sterile processing and surgical care.
