High-Level Disinfection & Endoscope Basics

This course, High-Level Disinfection & Endoscope Basics, is the fifth course in the Learning Pathway of Sterile Processing Technician Certificate Program. It covers the safe reprocessing of heat-sensitive devices and introduces flexible and rigid endoscope handling.

Unit 1 — High-Level Disinfection Principles

  • Definition and scope of high-level disinfection

  • Industry standards and guidelines

Unit 2 — Heat-Sensitive Device Processing

  • Chemical disinfectants and their uses

  • Contact times and efficacy testing

Unit 3 — Endoscope Reprocessing Overview

  • Types of endoscopes

  • Basic cleaning and disinfection steps

Unit 4 — Quality Control & Safety

  • Monitoring and verification of disinfection cycles

  • PPE and chemical handling precautions

Clock Hours: 10 theory hours, 5 lab hours (Total: 15 hours)
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Course 4 — Cleaning & Decontamination Procedures.
Outcome: Students will be able to safely perform high-level disinfection of devices and demonstrate basic endoscope reprocessing procedures.
