Preparation & Packaging Processes

This course, Preparation & Packaging Processes, is the sixth course in the Learning Pathway of Sterile Processing Technician Certificate Program. It trains students to prepare, assemble, and package surgical instruments for sterilization while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

Unit 1 — Instrument Inspection & Function Testing

  • Identifying defects and wear

  • Lubrication procedures

Unit 2 — Set Assembly Procedures

  • Count sheets and configuration standards

  • Specialty set considerations

Unit 3 — Packaging Methods

  • Wrapping techniques and packaging material selection

  • Sterilization prep and load configuration

Unit 4 — Labeling & Traceability

  • Load identification

  • Tracking systems and documentation

Clock Hours: 10 theory hours, 10 lab hours (Total: 20 hours)
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Course 5 — High-Level Disinfection & Endoscope Basics.
Outcome: Students will prepare and package surgical instruments according to industry best practices for sterilization readiness.
