Certification Path

Option A — HSPA: CRCST

  • 400 SPD hours required for full CRCST.

  • You may test Provisional first, then complete 400 hours within 6 months to convert to full CRCST.

  • Hours must be documented across HSPA categories.

Option B — CBSPD: CSPDT

  • No 400 hours required if you qualify by completing an SPD training course with a passing grade (70%+)—such as the Milay Institute SPT program.

  • Other eligibility routes (e.g., work experience) also exist.

  • Apply and test directly with CBSPD.

Milay provides education and exam prep; HSPA/CBSPD are the certifying bodies. Candidates apply and schedule exams directly with them.

About the 400 Experience Hours (CRCST)

HSPA requires 400 total hours across decontamination, prep/pack, sterilization/disinfection, storage/distribution, and QA. Hours can be paid or volunteer, completed before testing or within 6 months after passing as Provisional.
